Ferenc has nailed it when it comes to explaining what makes BI projects succeed or fail. As a consumer of information, my eyes were opened as to what I should be doing and saying and why.I found the book very easy to read, it used everyday language and all the technical jargon I have heard being used, was clearly explained in an easily understandable way. I found the book to be an excellent teaching aid and very helpful. I have asked my manager to get a copy as we constantly need information, but struggle to get it, in the way we want. I also got an appreciation for what IT needs to go through and what impact poor data quality has on delivering information systems that we as end users find useful and a delight to work with.
Ferenc also goes on to explain the benefits and dangers of using Excel. His sometimes funny use of analogies hits home and it is easy to ‘get it’ right away. The case studies chapter was a revelation of what could be done.
I would recommend this book to any non-technical person who has to deal with IT vendors or the IT department, as it puts things into perspective. This is a very good investment, if you implement only one of the recommendations, the book will have paid for itself many times over.

I have been working in Business Intelligence reporting for over ten years, I have read a lot of books in this area. This book is by far the most helpful. BI is changing rapidly and references are easily available online these days. The problem is, you get little insight about as to why you create the solution in a certain way. However, you will understand the real business drive behind the solutions in this book, which is at the core of any successful BI implementations.
Most people see BI as a big investment and they get lost in emerging terms such as Big Data, Cloud, predictive Analytics, etc. I saw BI systems that grew big and became hard to manage. Business wouldn't use it when they could not trust the data quality, or they felt they not being listened to. Not only does this book explain why you need to invest in BI, but how and what to do to get the most from your investment. It certainly helps technical designers and developers in up-skill learning the business angle of BI. It also provides thoughts to help managers from the business, in implementing successful BI projects.
You can see Ferenc's passion in supporting business through BI. Ideally, business and technical stakeholders should share this same passion. The information included in this book has already been tested and proven in the business world and the steps are outlined in an easy way, ready to be used. Thanks Ferenc for sharing your experience.
